Greece’s countless islands, extensive coastline, and unique beaches create the perfect holiday trifecta, drawing over 32 million visitors in 2023.
According to “Travel + Leisure,” there are many reasons to fall in love with Greece, including its rich history, art, food, and culture.
However, there’s another equally compelling reason why travelers flock to Greece: its crystal-clear and inviting waters.
Greece is home to the beach with the cleanest waters in the world, according to the well-known website, citing research from the American travel agency Florida Panhandle.
The Florida Panhandle released a list of beaches with the cleanest waters on the planet. To reach their conclusion, they created a list of 50 beaches worldwide that ranked highest on travel review websites. They then calculated each beach’s score based on the percentage of reviews mentioning “clean waters.” This analysis involved over 2.4 million reviews.
The world’s cleanest beach is in Greece
According to the data, Prassa Beach on the small island of Kimolos, in the eastern Aegean Sea, has the cleanest waters in the world.
“With a coastline stretching 8,497 miles, Greece boasts the longest coastline in the Mediterranean, a sea renowned for its crystal-clear waters and rich blue hue. It’s no wonder that the majority of the world’s top beaches for clean waters are in Greece, with Prassa Beach on Kimolos island leading the list, as 43.56% of publicly available traveler reviews mention ‘clean waters’,” the report states.
Another Greek beach, Gennadi Beach on the island of Rhodes, ranks second on the list.
Pileh Bay Beach in Thailand is third, followed by Agios Dimitrios Beach in Alonissos.
The top five is rounded out by Agia Anna Beach in Naxos.
“As you can see, if you’re looking for clean waters, Greece is the place to go. And you’ll certainly be in good company while you’re there,” comments “Travel + Leisure.”
