Beekeepers from all over Greece gathered today at Syntagma to protest. According to the police, more than 500 people have gathered in front of the Greek Parliament.
Due to the rally traffic on Amalias Avenue was interrupted several times.
A ten – member committee will meet with the Minister of Rural Development and Food L. Avgenakis at noon.
The president of the Association of Professional Beekeepers of Messinia, Laconia and Arcadia, Giorgos Sentementes, told Greek media, that they protest for the unfair competition caused by imported honey being sold as greek at low prices.
Moreover, the demand tax-free gas and modification of the fire ordinance which, prohibits beekeepers from entering the forests.
Farmers from all over Greece converged for a rally at Syntagma Square on Tuesday evening, to protest high production prices and call for more support from the government.
On Wednesday, farmers and their tractors left Syntagma Square, without any problem.
Farmers’ demands include subsidies for purchase of fertilizer, animal feed, and equipment.
